Cannabis oil is a concentrated extract obtained by extraction of the dried flowers of the cannabis plant. It is not actually an oil, but derives its name from its sticky and oily appearance. The purpose of producing cannabis oil is to make cannabinoids and other beneficial components, such as terpenes, available in a highly concentrated form.

Cannabis oil can be smoked, dabbed or vaped using a variety of methods but is best enjoyed using a vaporizer or dab rig; a specialized smoking device similar to a bong. Users also sometimes add it directly to a bowl or rolled joint or blunt however this is not a very efficient method of use.

Also known as BHO or butane honey oil there are several different concentrates that fall under the term Oil. Butane hash oil is a marijuana extract that is created when butane is forced through cannabis plant material. This solvent based extractions is when cannabis flower is placed in a receptacle tube while butane is forced through, which then strips the cannabis plant of its cannabinoids. Once the extraction process is complete the plant matter will be no more, all that remains is a high percentage of cannabinoids and terpenes which provides high levels of THC extract, taste and flavor. This process yields anywhere from 60-80 percent pure THC oil extract.
